Summer heat is upon us and I have been tagged twice!

Both Bobbi of Beading at the Beach and Freebird of Freebirdsings have tagged me in the current meme. I have skillfully avoided this game for almost a year but when one gets tagged twice, I guess they need to play:

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

After quitting my job as a corporate human resource director in the hospitality industry, I started my own business -- event planning and decorating. Two years into it and several hundred weddings and conventions and parties later, I was happy but slowly becoming disenchanted with the fact that people wanted all my good services but did not want to pay what they were worth. But I hung in there and started writing my novel, too.

2. 5 things on today's to-do list:

Finish sewing up 37 comfort doll bodies -- giving a workshop a week from now to many eager participants.

Wrap birthday presents and gifties brought back from vacation

Catch as much of today's spacewalk as possible on the NASA channel

Watch the NBA Celtics/Lakers game

Try to keep my mind off all the new beads that arrived two days ago until I am finished with those comfort dolls!

3. Snacks I enjoy:

Frozen fruit -- especially raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries
Low-fat cheese of any kind
Lightly salted baked Peta Chips

4. Things I'd do if I were a billionnaire!

Wow, that wild fantasy of no more house payments, owning a lot of land near our Organ Mountains and a vacation home and land in the central mountains of Ruidoso, buying houses for all of our kids, providing funds for all of our grandchildren's education, THEN building an exploratorium for our community's children, more community swimming pools, establishing free summer camps for sports and arts for all the kids, too. If there is anything left after all that, you can bet I will buy zillions of beads and yarn and books for me and lots of model train stuff for my husband!

5. Places I have lived:

Cleveland, Ohio -- yeah, I was born and lived there for 38 1/2 years!
Phoenix, Arizona for six months when our oldest child was a baby.
Roswell, New Mexico for eight years and where I met my wonderful husband.
Las Cruces, New Mexico for nearly 21 years now.

6. Peeps I want to know more about

Susan at Beading Inspired

OMG! I had a fun time reading through your list here Kathy. I have to laugh that I've visited Las Cruces 2-3 times while YOU've lived there!

Yikes! My own meme list??? Hang in there, it may be some time till I get to this... my own to do list is loooooooooong.

I'd love to hang out with you in your upcoming class... sounds like a blast. I do hope you blog it.

My b-day is tomorrow, so needless to say my weekend is not yet over. ;)

Have a bee-utiful day!
Thanks for sharing more about yourself... love it!
xo, Monica :)

I find it so interesting to read these, it does give one an insight that was not there before.

I have also been in Las Cruces several times since you have lived there. I think I told you before that White Sands is one of my most favorite places so far on this planet. We stayed in your town while we visited the dunes.

Later today I will post something about the soaps and smelly things I do, so check back.

The idea of not paying someone what they are worth seems to be so unfair and much too common. It seems to hit mainly service oriented professions. My dad used to say nurses aides should get paid a lot more-while they might not have the education of the doctors and nurses, they are doing all the dirty, back-breaking work. People do want their parties, don't want to do the work but don't think it's worth paying for either.

Thirtyseven dolls! Whoa, that's a big project. I think it would be fun to see what the class does with them though (hint, hint: take some pictures if you can).

Those new beads will be such a great reward for doing the dolls and the class. You'll enjoy them even more afterwards because you'd feel guilty putting the dolls off to play with the beads.

Oh, I would love to quit the 'corporate' world. I'm too scared to do it, I've been in 'it' for over 25 years now. I applaud you for taking the plunge. When I was a cake decorator I loved it, unfortunately I burned out on it. I think that's one of the reasons I don't like the idea of selling my beadwork - I do it for my pleasure only, I don't want it spoiled.

37 comfort dolls? WOW, I wish I was going to be in your class. Isn't the billionaire question hard? It was difficult for me to think big since it's so far out of my reality and my grasp. I really like your answers though.

Hey I never knew anyone who lived in Roswell. My son still pesters for a road trip there. Bet your workshops are a blast and everyone laughs a lot as they learn.

Hey KV, I too quit my corporate manager job a few years ago. I do miss the hustle and bustle sorta kinda. Probably because I haven't found anything quite as challenging. Apparently I like challenging more than boring. LOL.

What fun reading your list!

*Your upcoming workshop looks like a lot of fun! Look at all those comfort dolls ready for decorating!

*I like your exploratorium idea. And of course zillions of beads, books and yarn would be a necessity :)

*Ah yes, I hear you on #1.

And you tagged me :) These take me a while to do, but I'll get there - things are so crazy busy around here.
